A Small Gift for Mother’s Day
Sometimes the hardest part of Mother’s Day isn’t buying the card.
It’s finding the words.
We can feel everything — the gratitude, the memories, the love — but when the pen touches the paper, it all goes quiet. How do you sum up years of sacrifice? How do you thank someone who gave so much of herself so that you could become yourself?
So today, I wanted to offer something simple.
A small poem. A starting point. A gift.
If you don’t know what to write inside your Mother’s Day card, you’re welcome to use this — exactly as it is, or changed to make it your own.
You held my hand before I knew
How strong your hands had always been.
You spoke my name with gentle pride
And taught me who I am within.
In quiet ways you gave your all,
In unseen ways you made me stand.
Today I honour all you are —
My heart was shaped inside your hands.
Whether your mum is bold and outspoken, soft and steady, regal and composed, or quietly powerful — this is for her.
And if you’re reading this and you are the mother — may you know that your quiet giving never goes unseen. Even when it feels like it.
Sometimes love doesn’t need many words.
Just the right ones.
With care,
Nsaa Nefateri 💛
