The Story Behind the Magic: Why I Created the Nubian Fairies ABC Book

There are some things you create because they make sense.
And then there are the things you create because they feel necessary.

The Nubian Fairies ABC Book was one of those necessary creations.

It began with a simple question:

What does it look like when our children see themselves inside the magic?

Not as the side character.
Not as an afterthought.
Not hidden in the background.

But centred.

Celebrated.

Named.

For a long time, children’s books have carried imagination beautifully, but many of our children have had to search for themselves inside those pages.

Search for their skin.

Their hair.

Their culture.

Their rhythm.

Their joy.

And I wanted to build something different.

Something soft, playful, educational, and rooted in belonging.

That’s how Nubian Fairies ABC Book came to life.

A world where brown fairies dance through the alphabet.

A world where learning feels joyful.

A world where culture and curiosity sit side by side.

Not forced.

Just naturally there.

Because that’s how it should be.

Every letter in this book was created with care.

Not just to teach the alphabet, but to open up language through familiar textures, flavours, flowers, and foods that hold meaning across African and Caribbean homes.

From A for Amarula to C for Callaloo, from K for Kelewele to Z for Zobo, the book carries more than letters.

It carries memory.

It carries culture.

It carries little seeds of identity.

And that matters.

Children absorb so much in their early years.

The words.

The pictures.

The patterns.

The things repeated to them become part of how they understand the world — and themselves.

Representation is not a trend.

It is part of building confidence.

Part of building identity.

Part of helping a child understand:

I belong here too.

But beyond that…

I wanted this book to feel fun.

Because learning should feel alive.

That’s why the world of the Nubian Fairies is filled with adventure, colour, rhythm, nature, and joy.

Characters like Adeola, Ade, Coral, Zuba, and Lehleh each bring their own energy into the journey, helping children connect with letters through story and personality.

The fairies are playful.

Curious.

Bright.

Different.

Just like children.

And maybe that’s the deeper heartbeat of this whole thing.

Not perfection.

Possibility.

To let a child hold a book and feel seen.

To let a parent read aloud and feel proud.

To let families create moments together that feel warm, familiar, and memorable.

And truthfully…

This book is only the beginning.

Nubian Fairy World is growing into something bigger.

More stories.

More songs.

More adventures.

More ways for children to learn through imagination.

Because stories shape how children dream.

And dreams shape how children grow.

As we move through May — a month that often carries themes of growth, warmth, and new beginnings — it feels like the perfect time to celebrate books that plant something meaningful.

Not just literacy.

But identity.

Wonder.

Confidence.

Joy.

If you’ve been looking for a children’s book that teaches the alphabet while holding culture, imagination, and representation in the same hand…

This is that book.

And I’m proud of what it holds.

Not just for children now.

But for the memories they will carry later.

Because sometimes the smallest books carry the biggest beginnings.

The magic starts with A.  Available Now!
